Mike Valvano we finished the movie today and i think the ending was really good. at first i did not like the ending but looking back on it it was very well put together. it connected the film perfectly and i really liked it. it was definately a thinkers ending and after thinking about it it was awesome.
At first, in the ending I would have liked to see Annie and Alvy together. But when I started to think back on everything that happened in the movie, I realized that it was a more powerful ending having it like that. When Alvy says, "I wouldn't want to be part of any club that would have me as a member", is what he's talking about in the end. Once a person starts liking him and he gets them it's like he gets tired of them, just like with what happens with Annie, but then he starts to miss her again. It's just how life is, you always want what you can't have and when you do get what you want, you get tired of it.
Throughout the movie I was very confused as to what the plot line was. But once the ending happened I realized that his last quote really sums up the movie. Everybody is crazy when they are in love and at times you win some and at times you lose some. It was sad to see Annie and Alvy split up but it was still a happy ending in that Alvy sounded accepting and hopeful of future relationships.
After finishing this movie I realized that it's so much more than a couple of laughs. One is never really content with what they have until they really lose it and thats the point of the film when he loses Annie and gets her back and loses her again until she doesn't come back. Most of the time it was Alvy's fault trying to give her his interest by making her go to school and become more educated. He was trying to push her to fit his needs until she became literally smart enough to realize what was going on.
After watching the entire movie, I don't think I liked it as much as I thought. It was funny and interesting but it isn't something I would want to watch again if it was on t.v. or something. The fact that it was a romantic comedy was probably why it drew me in but the content itself was a little aged. It didn't find it confusing but I didn't find it that appealing either. The ending was realistic instead of the normal happy ending most directors like leaving the audience with. I was hoping for something more from Alvy. I wanted it to end where Alvy is willing to change for Annie but that never happened. Truth is Alvy can't change for anyone. It's just slightly depressing thinking that sometimes it's just the thrill of the chase that you love, not the actual person. Reality sucks... lol.
After watching the film, I didn't like it very much. I thought it was kind of confusing but that might be because I watched day 2 and day 3 a little over a week apart from each other. I liked how the film ended because Annie realized that their relationship wasn't what was best for her. So many movies end now where it's obvious the couple will get back together, so this film was different than most. I also liked some of the techniques that Allen used throughout the film, like when Alvy addressed the audience, because I've never seen that in a film before. Cassie Obzud
After finishing watching the entire film, I also realized that I didn't really like it that much. I would agree that back during that time, people were very surprised with all the new techniques that Woody Allen used. However, although I thought that some of the techniques he used were funny, I wasn't amazed by it. I thought that the plot was cute but it wasn't anything that I would get hooked on. I definitely think that this was not the best film we have seen. I do agree with everyone else in that the ending scene was something that was not expected, which I did like. Leah Wise
